Showcasing Tomorrow’s Audio Technologies at MWC Shanghai 2025
Hall N2 Booth #D82
Hall N2 Booth #D82
MWC Shanghai is right around the corner and, as every year, Fraunhofer IIS will showcase the latest audio innovations. Building on the success of our previous exhibitions, we are eager to present technologies that promise to redefine the audio experience from June 18 to 20 in Shanghai at our booth N2.D82 in hall N2.
Our Immersive Voice and Audio Services (IVAS) continues to push the boundaries of audio technology with 3D audio for telephone connections. At the booth we set up a live phone call which offers an unparalleled audio quality and an extraordinary user experience, making it a highlight of our showcase. Visitors will experience firsthand how IVAS enhances communication and entertainment.
IVAS is the new 3GPP voice codec that offers an immersive audio experience during calls and conferences. Designed specifically for mobile communication, the codec is optimized for highly efficient compression with low complexity and minimal delay. It supports a wide range of audio formats from mono and stereo to various immersive formats such as multi-channel, Ambisonics, Object Based Audio, and Metadata-Assisted Spatial Audio (MASA). With advanced rendering capabilities for a wide range of devices, including headphones, car speakers, soundbars, and VR headsets, IVAS delivers captivating and interactive audio experiences.
A fun experience is brought to our booth with a real-time Karaoke experience, powered by upHear AI-based Singing Voice Removal. Based on cutting-edge AI-powered music extraction algorithms, this demo enables vistors to enjoy karaoke at a completely new level. The easy-to-handle solution separates the music from the vocals and only plays the instrumental track, providing a seamless karaoke experience. At home in front of the TV, on the go with a portable speaker, and in the car – upHear AI-based Singing Voice Removal is a great solution to effortlessly enjoy karaoke anywhere and any time.
We will also showcase other technologies from our versatile upHear range of audio processing solutions. This includes upHear Personalized Voice Isolation: Having an online meeting in a room with several conversations going can be stressful to the caller as well as other participants. At the Fraunhofer booth, visitors can experience how upHear Personalized Voice Isolation uses AI algorithms to remove all but the main caller’s voice from a call, which ensures a much more pleasant experience. This makes the solution ideal for communication, conferencing, and audio recordings. When it comes to mobile sound experiences, upHear Mobile Audio raises the bar for dynamic spatial audio. The low-complexity rendering technology with head tracking excels through low power consumption on devices like smartphones, true-wireless earbuds, and smart glasses. It delivers high-quality binaural output of immersive soundscapes from stereo to multichannel input making them ready for ready for Next-Generation Audio.
xHE-AAC, the latest member of the proven AAC codec range, now sets new standards for streaming and messaging in China and beyond.
Whether you're delivering music, movies, audio books, or podcasts, xHE-AAC ensures optimum audio quality – even at low bitrates. With adaptive bitrate streaming from as low as 12 kbit/s up to 320 kbit/s for stereo, it guarantees seamless playback regardless of network condition, making it the ideal solution for modern content platforms and mobile networks. Compared to legacy codecs, xHE-AAC delivers a massive leap in sound quality through enhanced stereo imaging and speech clarity as well as excellent performance at low bitrates. Built-in loudness normalization and dynamic range control ensure a consistent user experience across all devices and listening environments.
And now, xHE-AAC is the mandatory audio codec for audio messaging under GSMA’s RCS Universal Profile 3.0. With stereo audio support and superior sound quality, xHE-AAC makes RCS media sharing and audio messaging, also known as 5G messaging in China, modern, clear, and ready for the future.
The application of advanced AI-based technology to a new generation of speech codecs significantly reduces the bitrates required for good audio quality. Satellite and mobile operators that use GEO (Geosynchronous Equatorial Orbit) satellite constellations can now for the first time begin to offer reliable Direct-to-Device (D2D) voice services with audio quality as good as or even better than terrestrial calls. Satellite operators using LEO (Low Earth Orbit) constellations can also benefit from this paradigm shift by cost efficiently deploying satellite voice service.
Discover an astonishing preview of the latest AI-based video codec that will soon enable D2D video calls over Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN).
LC3plus is the industry-leading wireless audio codec that lets you deliver outstanding sound quality with minimum latency. The technology’s low complexity meets the requirements of wireless communication platforms such as Bluetooth, DECT, and VoIP terminals. Thanks to its extremely low delay, it is the best choice for high-end gaming headsets, karaoke machines, and audio systems while its improved robustness delivers interruption-free phone calls even under challenging conditions. LC3plus is qualified for the Japan Audio Society Hi-Res Audio logo.
At MWC, we will showcase LC3plus Lossless, which ensures a consistently great user experience by switching seamlessly between lossless and lossy modes of operation. We will also present the latest implementations into CE devices such as the AKG N5 Hybrid earbuds and the Sony ECM-S1 streaming microphone.
